Cuyabeno Jungle Tour

Cuyabeno Lodge can be found in the province of Sucumbíos, in the north-eastern part of the Ecuadorian Amazon. The lodge is situated on a peninsula on the Cuyabeno Lake within the Cuyabeno National Park.

Scattered throughout the grounds are seven detached thatched-roof wooden cabins, each sleeping two people in double or twin beds. Three “Superior Rooms” are located in the observation tower, affording these spectacular views over the forest canopy. All rooms have a balcony or terrace and private bathrooms with hot showers.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Lago Agrio. Bus ride to the bridge over the Cubayeno River (3 hours). Box lunch. Motorized dugout canoe downstream on the Cubayeno river (3 hours approx.) to camp or lodge. Dinner. Night walk. (BL/D)

Day 2: Breakfast. Forest walk to learn about medicinal plants and explore the amazing ecosystem. Lunch. Piranha fishing. Dinner. (FB)

Day 3: Breakfast. Canoe ride to visit the Cubayeno lagoon; jungle walk by the shore of the lagoon. Box lunch on shore. Canoe ride on the lagoon. Swim. Return to the camp/ lodge late afternoon. Dinner. Night canoe ride on the river for nightlife watching, such as caimans and many other nocturnal species. (FB)

Day 4: Bird watching. Breakfast. Hike in the forest. Lunch. Visit the indigenous village Puerto Bolivar to add a culture aspect to the tour. Dinner. (FB)

Day 5: Breakfast. End the Cuyabeno tour with a canoe back upstream on the Cubayeno River. Meet the bus at the bridge and back to Lago Agrio to catch the flight to Quito. (B)
