Galapagos Cruise aboard the Cachalote I

We are recently back from an amazing trip around the Galapagos Islands aboard the Cachalote I: a ‘first Class’ schooner rigged motor sailor outfitted especially to cruise the Galapagos Islands. This charming yacht has a true sailboat feel with all wooden interiors and great deck space to relax while the boat cruises from island to island.

Our itinerary focused on the Southern and Northern Islands, including Hood Island and Tower Island, two of Galapagos’s highlights. Hood is one of the oldest islands in the Galapagos at over 3 million years of age and is located in the far southeast of the archipelago. It is well known for its abundant bird life, especially for the Waved Albatross, whose only breeding spot in the world is on the island of Hood. Tower is in the north, and has a volcanic caldera whose wall has collapsed, forming the Great Darwin Bay, surrounded by cliffs. It is among the best place in the islands to see the Red-footed boobies, the Nazca boobies, Swallow-tailed gulls, storm petrels and tropicbirds.

Other islands visited were Santa Fe, Plazas, Northern Santa Cruz, San Cristobal, Floreana, and James; each of these unique and varied.

The weather was fantastic, the visits amazing, and the snorkeling was always fun! Check out some images on our Cachalote facebook page:
